The Foundation Phase

The Foundation Phase comprises three classes each of Grade 1, 2 and 3. In this, the first phase of formal education, the basis is laid for future learning. The little girls are encouraged to develop independence, thinking for themselves and solving problems whilst being given the tools they need for success in the higher grades, that is the ability to read, write and have a sound basic understanding of number. All of this happens in cheerful, colourful and well equipped classrooms where the children work together in groups both on the carpet and at their desks using a variety of apparatus and materials. They are given the confidence to move into the Intermediate Phase and cope successfully with all its new challenges. Parent contact is of the utmost importance and the experienced teachers maintain this through formal and informal meetings throughout the year. In addition parents have an opportunity each term to watch their daughters in action at the Super Splash Gala, the Fun Sports Day, the Spring Sing and, at the end of the year, a Nativity presentation and Final Assembly.
